Visual Communication
Graphic design and visual communication is my core focus. By providing high quality solutions in areas of design and production in print literature and advertising, as well as the large documents such as Software User Manuals and User Guides, I facilitate the process of electronic publishing.
In addition to those large documents are vehicles such as web sites, Flash enhanced product demos, PDF presentations, Powerpoint presentations, and trade show auto-run loop demos.
In 1994, I started DBA David Thompson Studio in San Jose. With nine years as an Illustrator and Graphic Designer at a Fortune 500 company, Tandem Computers, I ventured out on my own working out of a home office handling freelance graphic design and production contracts with Actel, Integrated Systems, and eventually Adobe Systems. As a sub contractor I worked for small agencies; Steve & Steve Advertising, Cornen & Shen, and larger agencies; TMP Worldwide, and Lai, Venuti and Lai. More Overview>>
Conceptual and Literal Illustration
In the case with Digex Managed Hosting, for security reasons they could not show the actual floorplan of their Data Centers. This conceptual renderings above was created in Bryce to help describe the complex infrastructure of Digex server farm facility without endangering it's security by showing an actual floorplan. Electronic File Preparation I started in this industry with traditional old school methods of book production and mechanical art preparation, stripping, platemaking, etc. I first started file preparation in 1986, before Adobe Separator came out I was trapping and masking with layers, before Adobe Illustrator had layers. Coming from tradition old school trapping and masking, I quickly applied my understanding of color separation and the dot to the new electronic medium.
